Special orders, no. 51 : Fort McPherson, Nebraska, 1870 Sept 8.

Manuscript orders from Colonel W. H. Emory, addressed to W. C. Frobush of the 5th U. S. Cavalry and dated 1870 Sept 8. The orders direct the "A" and "B" Companies of the Pawnee Scouts to march to their respective posts in Lexington, Nebraska, and O'Fallons Station, Nebraska. The orders futher direct the "F" Company of the 5th United States Cavalry to North Platte, Nebraska and the "M" Company of the 5th Cavalry to Fort McPherson. The orders provide specific details about the provision and transportation of troops, and state limits for Pawnee Scout operations on the Union Pacific Railroad line.

Major Frank J. North was organizer and commander of the Pawnee Scouts, a United States Army Unit made up of volunteer Pawnee Indians from Nebraska.
